It is situated in eastern Taiwan，Taroko National Park sprawls across 3 countries，Hualien，Taichung，Nantou，covers an area of 92000 hectares.The national park was established on November 28.1986.The park is famous for its spectacular marble gorge and scenic beauty of high mountain with 27 peaks towering above 3000 meters in heights.As one ascends into the Taroko following the Central Cross Island (中橫) Highway，diverse forms of different altitude plant and animal life and cultural heritage sites can be easily viewed.

The vegetation (生態) of Taroko National Park includes broad-leaved，mixed broad-leaved forests & coniferous forests；and subalpine coniferous forests(針葉林) cover areas above 3000 meters in elevation.The plant communities found in areas underlain by limestone (石灰石下層) and areas of high elevations are composed of distinctive species . Then the rich topographic (地形) features and diversified vegetation of the park bring about a variety of habitats in which many life forms thrive.Research indicates that one-third of the vascular plants occurring in Taiwan can be found within the Taroko park.Half the species of mammals found in Taiwan are also present here.In addition，ninety percent of the resident species of birds in Taiwan area，and over half of the butterfly species can also be encountered in the park.
