The renewal of rail structure to ensure operation safety
|
|
Owing to heavy traffics, the rails are deformed and deteriorated. Furthermore, the Heavy Duty rails laid during the Electrified Railway project on the western line have reached the fatigue limit, the ballast rail bed mud content has reached the replacement level, they have to be renovated one after another. This is planned to proceed in 12 years starting 1991 and it costs about 18.355 billion NT Dollars.

Improvement of Railway Safety Equipment
|
|
TRA will renew all of the Automatic Protection System, to complete the Around-The-Island CTC system, to improve the stations and terminals intermodal loading facilities, to complete the Around-The-Island Dispatching Wireless Telephone system and the optical Fibre Network system. These projects will take about seven years and the total costs about 13.275 billion NT Dollars.

Improvement of the electrical equipments
|

In order to ensure the normal utilization of the electrical facilities, to enhance the reliability of the power supply, to maintain the car running punctuality and safety, some old electrical equipment must be replaced. These projects will take about five years and the total costs about 1.351 billion NT Dollars.

Diversification of operations and to increase revenues
|
|
Taiwan Railway Administration will try to breakthrough the current legal restrictions and to make full uses of the resources currently available to diversify its operations such as leasing of offices, conference rooms, plain advertisements in cars and stations, automatic vending machines, etc.

|
To enhance the land development
|
|
TRA will sell its land lots now being vacated or not in use through open tendering and will relocate the Taipei and Kaohsiung Machinery Shops using the trading method to increase its non-business income.
