>> Knowledge on the Changhua Railway
The Changhua fan-shaped garage is the only one in Taiwan. Steam locomotive engines (locomotive engines) are very are. After the steam locomotive engines have completed their tour, they enter the Changhua fan-shaped garage, giving this fan-shaped garage more historical and cultural values.
In 1922, the motive garage of Changhua Mechanical Department was built. The rails radiate outward just like a fan, which is called a fan-shaped garage. After the locomotive engine has run for a long distance, it then enters the garage for maintenance. Therefore, the fan-shaped garage is also called “locomotive engine hotel.”
The fan-shaped garage is located at the side of Changmei Road in Changhua City. Once in the Mechanical Department, you can see two robots made from scrap iron by the staff members of Taiwan Railway. As they are very special, a lot of children will come there and see the robots, before visiting the fan-shaped garage.
Once in the Changhua Mechanical Section, you can see mechanical staff members busily maintaining and repairing the locomotive engine. If the fan-shaped rails are moved by a turntable, the locomotive engine is thus rotated and moved into and out of garage, electrical locomotives, and steam engines.
The CK101 steam engine stored in the fan-shaped garage was made in 1917, and was terminated for use due to railway electrification in June 1979. Later, with repairs for seven months, its operations resumed on June 9 1998 to complete the tour of nostalgia for the cross-island railways. Then it was stored in the fan-shaped garage and became the first team engine that could successfully resume operations in Taiwan. The other steam engine, CK124, resumed its operations after being repaired, but it was then stored in the fan-shaped garage.
