Between 1972 and June 1979, railway electrification was implemented on a stage-like basis on this road. During its implementation, train driving and operations were affected. Trains were delayed, so that there was a loss of some travelers. Due to the full operation of the Chung Shan Highway on October 31 1978, the negative impact became doubly adverse, so the number of long-distance travelers sharply reduced. To fight for increasing revenue for passenger transportation services and boost service quality, so as to boost competitiveness, the Fu-shing long-distance train stopped additionally at this station in 1984. In recent years, due to traffic jam on the highways, traffic conditions have become serious. Due to the addition of newly purchased trains for operations, train schedules during the peak hour can effectively solve the problem of overcrowding with travelers. Therefore, the market for passenger transportation services slightly increases.

On January 21, 2006, the three-rail engineering project 三軌化工程between Cidu and Badu has been completed. At this point, Cidu Front Station was abolished and a closed chapter. The project resolved the inconvenience for passengers northbound and southbound to stop over at the front station and back station, separately. The opening of the new station also sees an increase in the number of luxury expresses in order to enhance customer services.

Due to the changes in the transportation patterns in the 1960’s, cargo transportation gradually grew. In response to container transportation, this road started to plan railway container transportation. Therefore, this station set up the Cidu Container Station in January 1973, and it was stipulated that container trains were opened between Cidu-Kaohsiung, with eight trains. Each train towed 23 platform cars, carrying twenty-three 40-feet-long containers and forty-six 20-fee-long containers. The transportation volume was large, and the transportation was speedy, thereby meeting the needs of customers. However, after the highway had become opened, some of the container companies would transfer the containers to shipping companies or the highway for transportation. In addition, container companies set up their trailers for transportation. This way, the market for container transportation gradually was reduced. When the North-Link Line opened in 1981, the resources in the Eastern Taiwan started to be developed, and cement, limestones, and silex became the major sources of cargo. In the meantime, the shipping services of Hualien Ship were suspended, and were replaced by this road. Then, with the export of marble and marble products, the Chung Hwa Pulp Corporation primarily produced pulp and semi-finished paper products. Therefore, the North-Link Line became the golden route for passenger and cargo transportation services.

Er Sa Wan Fort (Natural Sea Defense)
The Er Sa Wan Fort is a nation stipulated relic, and is called the Natural Sea Defense. It is located on the mountain opposite to the Ta Sa Wan Ethnic Hero Tomb on Chung Cheng Road in Keelung City, and was constructed during the Opium War fought between the Chinese and the British during the reign of Dao Kuang in Ching Dynasty.

After the mid-Ching Dynasty, Keelung gradually developed into a major gateway of Northern Taiwan. To strengthen the sea defense of Keelung, this northeastern fort that faced the southwest was built. The shape of China's ancient city walls and the walls formed by piling stones were upstanding on the boulevards. In addition, spacious, steep stones even revealed the imposing manner and heroic bearing of defending Keelung at that time. Er Sa Wan Fort appears to be an eyewitness of immortality for our history, with several battles fought there. Therefore, it has a historical meaning.

Liu Ming-Chuan Tunnel
【Opening Hours:09:00 AM ~ 17:00 PM】
The Liu Ming-Chuan Tunnel is a city stipulated relic. During the 11th year in the reign of Kuang Hsu of Ching Dynasty, when governor (Tsun-fu) Liu Ming-chuan governed Taiwan, he actively constructed Taiwan, launched the Westernization Movement, and advocated the establishment of railways. During the 13th year in the reign of Kuang Hsu, the establishment of “Taiwan Directorate General of Railway and Business” was approved. When the construction of railways was under way, the section from Keelung to Hsinchu via Taipei was constructed, in which the tunnel construction located at the Lion Ball Hill of Keelung was the most difficult. From the spring of 14th year in the reign of Kuang Hsu till the summer of the 16th year in the reign of Kuang Hsu, it took over 30 months to build the 235 meter-long Lion Ball Hill Tunnel. According to literature review, due to the complicated soil quality at that time, the northern section was covered by strong rocks, whereas the southern section was covered by damp soft soils. Therefore, it was extremely difficult. Major craftsmen were mostly soldiers. In addition, several British and German engineers were hired as consultants. Due to the change of railway route in the beginning of the 20th century, the Lion Ball Hill Tunnel gradually fell into disuse. In recent years, it is intended to maintain this relic of cultural and historical values.
