Dongshan Station was built in 1919(Japanese colonized period) and started to operate after the traffic services between Yilan and Su-ao were offered. It was a timber construction and destroyed by a typhoon in 1961. In the same year, it was rebuild of steel bars and concrete on the same location. The construction was completed in September 1962. As 43 years passed, the station yard appears outdated and the confined space is insufficient.Combining the development of Dongshan Forest Park and improving the traffic condition of the 3 crossings near to the Dongshan Station, the government heavily invested on rebuilding the station yard. The groundbreaking ceremony of this rebuilding construction took place on February 22, 2004, and the construction completion is expected in the end of 2007. Dongshan Station will have an all new appearance and become a new landmark of Dongshan Area at the time of the construction completed.
