Brief Introduction

Douliou Station is located in the vicinity of the Yunlin government. It is the only station on the circle-island rail, which passed not to be named after the county name of “Yunlin”. Taiwan North-south link Line started operations in Dec. 1902. Douliou Station, which is 260.9 km from the starting point in Keelung, started passenger and cargo operations on Feburary 1st, 1904. In 1940, it was destroyed after the devastating earthquake, one year and 3 months later reconstruction of the station was complete. In Dec. 1958, due to business demands, the station was replaced with reinforced concrete. On Jun. 15, 1982 the 2nd grade station was promoted to 1st grade station. The first stage of construction for the newly designed cross- station began on Mar. 7 2005. Because many of the colleges nearby the station that have sprung up like forest tree, the increasing passengers allow most express trains to stop at this station.

》ilou Bridge SiLuo Bridge running across Jhoushuei River is a significant landmark of Yunlin County and was once a vital traffic hub of North-south Highway in the west of Taiwan. On January 28, 1953 the commencement ceremony was held here, the whole town turned out with over 80 thousand people in attendance. The SiLuo Bridge spans a distance of 1939.03 meters, separated into 31 arches, which at the time was the longest bridge in the far East and the 2nd longest bridge in the world only to that of the San Francisco golden gate bridge. 》Beigang Mother Goddess Temple was once called Bengang as the vital hub of sea traffic. In 1694, the 34th Chan master Jengshfong of Buddhism Linji Branch contributed the stature of Meijhou Tianhou Temple to Taiwan and landed at Jhuluo Sea mouth of Bengang. At that time, Taiwan was just developed and most increasing populations came from Fujian. They felt gods’ spirits but suffered nowhere to worship them; therefore, when they saw the monks came with gods’ statures, they asked to keep them for worshiping. It first rented a resident’s house, which was very low and simple. Then after Chen, Lisung (from Tongan Township Fujian Province) donated the land; people donated money to collect gold for reconstruction and then local officers of many terms donated and sponsored and followers in all societies raised funds for renovation. The temple became a formal palace to worship Mother Goddess, the rear palace worships Buddha and the 18 disciples of Buddha. Chaotian Temple has been through many reconstruction for extension, now it is a brand new face with palaces high and tall and majestic views; even it is not the biggest scope of temple in Taiwan, because the miracles the gods showed, there are many followers. Therefore, when it is the fair season, the followers from every corner will gather and come together. It can be the top-graded project-the double-dragons-contributing-pearls stone stairs in front of Wuwunchang Palace with waves down below, in a great mist, two dragons, half hiding and half showing, fighting for a pearl in a lively form that is the only stone carving preserved from Qing Dynasty. It has been considered as a treasure for those artistic history scholars to research in Taiwan district.

》Janfusun Fancy World Located in Yunlin County of Gukeng Township suburbs, and is also the largest amusement park with modern high technology in Taiwan. Covering 8 hectares, this modern skyscraping square is the most excellent and super huge outdoor amusement park. Janfusun children’s amusement park covers over 2,000 pings and had invested 86 million in construction to match the top class children’s amusement parks of facility in the world. Janfusun is only 12 km from the Douliou Township. Visitors can ride the train to the Douliou Station and transfered to the Taisi charters (located at the back of the station) for the rest of trip. Currently there are 5 trips a day, one-way tickets are 38 NT dollars/each, with a 40 minute ride to the park. 》Sitou Forest Recreational Park It is located at the foothill of Fonghuan, Lugu Township Nantou County with an elevation of 1150 meters above sea level and 24 km away from Jhushan. It is one of experimental forests for Taiwan University. The forest is exquisite, well maintained, with a plethora of tree types. The Mountains, water, bamboo forest and mountain fog in the mornings and evenings have created a mysterious scene of Sitou that is hard to pull one’s self away from, causing one’s bosom full of love and one’s mind impressed with unforgettable memories. 》Caoling Lake Caoling Lake is a barrier lake that borders both Gukeng Township Yunlin County and Meishan Township Chiayi County. The power of nature has caused dams to burst and block one after the next. Because of a recent recorded breaking earthquake, the land shifted causing the face of Caoling Lake to once again take new shape. The surrounding mountains encompass the area on all four corners creating a majestic sense of awe. The rugged mountaintops have naturally formed shape, stirring feelings of boundless mystic to all those fortunate enough to cross this way like awe inspiring buffs. From these buffs water naturally spouts out and rocks protrude. The face of the buff has an incline of 45-50 degrees and is 70 meters wide and 140 meters long. At the bottom edge of the buff is a creek that rapidly traverses downward as if full of tension and excitement. 》Hua Mountain Night Scene in Gukeng Township Hua Mountain in GuKeng County has been become a tourist hot spot in recent years, no matter it is the welcoming rays of dawn or the moonlight that emerges filling the nights sky, the brisk winds whispering as you wander through the forest, the scenic mountain floor that lights up at night like an ocean of charming lanterns. After an exhausting day of hiking nothing is better than relaxing with a cup of GuKeng’s incomparable Hua-mountain coffee as the highlight of life. Visitors arriving at Douliou Station can catch the TaiSi charters bus to Hua Mountain.

》TaiSi Charters Bus Located at the rear of the train station, visitors can board the TaiSi charter bus to Gukeng, Linnei, Siluo, Beigang, Tuku, Taisi and various other tourist destinations. TaiSi charter Bus is the longest standing tourist charter company within the borders of Yunlin County. 》RihTong Charter Bus Located at the front right corner of the train station, their new line up of busses and frequency of trips are the defining characteristics of this company. Along with long distant destinations, they also serve closer proximity destinations such as Siluo, Beigang, Huwei, Mailiao, etc. all in the Yunlin border. 》Taxi In the front of the train station, there are plethoras of taxies; most of them run on bargaining the price first instead of charging regarding the distance.
