 Brief Introduction
BlockImage-Ershuei Station
Ershuei Station

Ershuei Station was previously called “Erpashuei Station” and was built in 1918. Later, as the Taiwan Railways took over the Jiji Branch, and the passenger and cargo transportation volume sharply increased that time, a simple and crude wooden storehouse was built for operations. In 1920, the station was renamed “Ershuei Station.” In 1933, as the Jiji Branch and the passenger and cargo transportation volume of North-South Railways increased, a station building was built of steel reinforced bar and cement. This construction was novel in the Central Taiwan that time and became something that the people of Ershuei were proud of. Since then, the station building was renovated and structures were added to the building, through the dedicated efforts of stationmasters. Through their efforts, Ersheui Station is well equipped with facilities.

Jiji Line

First Station: Jiji Line
The development and prosperity of Ershuei Village is closely related to trains. During the Japanese Occupation Era, there were three railways (North-South Railways, Jiji Railways, and Taiwan Sugar Railway.) No other village had three railways in one village. Therefore, the people from Ershuei have developed a passion for traditional trains.

The Jiji Railway was constructed in 1930. In the early years, during the construction of Sun-Moon Lake power station, this railway line was used to carry construction materials. Later, the crops along the railway line was also carried by railways. However, as highway transportation is very convenient, the railways have already transformed into a train for sightseeing and recreational purposes.

The Jiji Line branched out from the North-South Railway of this county, from Ershuei Station, along Yuancyuan, Jhuoshuei, Longcyuan, and Shueili, and the northern coast of Jhousheui River till Nantou. The whole trip covers a total distance of 29 km.

Third Station: Ersheui Station in Wufeitzu Sugar Railway
The Wufantzu Ershuei Station is the back of Ershuei Station of Taiwan Railways. In the early years, sugar can raw materials were exported from Nantou County to the Sijhou Sugar Plant in Sijhou Village of Changhua County. The Ershuei Wufentzu Station was organized under Nantou Sugar Manufacturing Area. It was also an area essential for the North-South Railway. This station was all made of wood. That time, the scenery from the crossover bridge of the North-South Railway was the most spectacular. Due to the electrification of the North-South Railway, together with the floods, the sugar plant in Changhua County was relocated to its Taipei headquarters. This way, the railway has already lost its duty of carrying sugar cane. In line with the electrification of railways, the Taiwan Sugar Railway was torn down in 1971. To date, only the piers remained behind.

As the Ershuei Station is at the intersection of the Cross-Island Railway and the Jiji Railway, it was used as a railway during the Japanese occupation era. As it became an important transportation hub, a train repairs site was built at the back end of the Ershuei Train Station, for the refilling of water and coal to trains. This was an important maintenance site for CK120-style steam engines. Despite the bombing during the Second World War, the water tower there still remains behind nowadays, so it has become a witness of the Second World War and the “Steam Engine Era” of Taiwan Railways.
