Fongshan was first found in Qing Dynasty for them to rule over Taiwan, then they split Taiwan into two counties of Taiwan and Fongshan for management. Because the hill topography of Fongshan (the old government office of Kaohsiung County) was in northwest position towards south and was like a Phoenix ready to soar, it was named Fongshan(Fong-phoenix, shan-mountain).  During Japanese rule, they still adapted this place name and established station here and named it as Fongshan train station, so did after restoration and now.

Fongshan Station was first established in 1906 for Japan to transport agricultural products and military needs during Japanese rule. It was extended out from TRA North-south link Line Kaohsiung Harbor Station as its initial point and built a shabby wooden station, 9.394 km to Kaohsiung Harbor Station, for station operation.  It was then extended to Jioucyutang, Pingtung and Fangliao and became the sub-line of TRA North-south link Line.  This station is located between TSC Cishan Route (Cishan—Jioucyutang) and Siaogang Route (Linyuan—Siaogang) and was a very important transferring station for agricultural products and military during Japanese rule.

This station is the location of Kaohsiung County Halls with a lot of schools and prosperous industries and commercials.  It is also the assisting station to Kaohsiung Station to share the responsibility of transportation.  There are also many historical sites around with one excellent siteCheng Ching Lake

》Binzih Market
The“Binzih market” right across President Department Store in Fengshan is the gatherings of all kinds of merchandises; Things here are cheap and nice, with great diversities of selections, guarantee you will have your hands full once you shop here. When the sun goes time, various kinds of food stands will boom up so we suggest you to come to “shop at this night market” after you are done visiting historical sites in the day.

》Datie Street (Forging-iron Street)
Nearby Dongbian Gate, it is an old street. People in Mainland China sailed to Taiwan and forged iron for living. During its popular time, there were over 10 shops. Now because of the industrial progress, there are only 2,3 shops left on this street and most of them are mainly making farming tools.

》Jiaju (furniture) Street
It is located on Sanmin Rd right in front of Lungshan Temple. Over a half of the street, all stores, extending as close to 1 km long, sell furniture and Buddha worshiping tables, which can be called the most representative street in Fengshan City. Walking here, one soon will smell the delicate wood fragrance and it is excellent too that the road was laid with red green tiles.
