Nanzih Station was once called “ Nanzihkeng,” eatablished on Nov. 29 1900 as a 2nd grade station of TRA. Because it is located among the three “shans”(Gangshan, Cishan and Fongshan) of Kaohsiung county and neighboring with Jhongshan Highway and Tai-1 Highway; therefore, its traffic position is so important that it can be called the doorway of northern Kaohsiung.
This station was established on Nov. 29 1900 and its old station name was Nanzihkeng. Later on, it was changed to Nanzih by using the name of the local place name. The old ward belonged to Nanzih Village Gangshan Township Kaohsiung State. Not long after Taiwan restoration, it was then put under the jurisdiction of Kaohsiung City. The old station was made of woods with the size of 240 square meters; then the old station was no longer useful because of local growing prosperity, increasing populations, growing factories like forests and rapidly throwing in cargo and passengers transportation; therefore, it was reconstructed on Jun. 6 1967 until now. On May 1 1981, it was upgraded to a 2nd grade station and the total area of this station is 31282 square meters and the area of the station office is 718 square meters. In May 1993, it extended to have passengers’ subway.
