Brief Introduction
|
This station was built in May 1919 and was a wooden station building. (Due to the steep slope in the mountainous route, its transportation was restricted. Therefore, the Chunan-Changhua sea route was planned and built in 1919, at a length of 85 km.) The station was set up on December 15 1920, for the passenger and cargo transportation services of Jhingshui-Taichung section. After the Shalu Station has been set up, the full sea route was completed and opened on October 31 1922, thereby enhancing the economy and facilitating transportation.

This station is the first station of sea route. In addition to the provision of passenger transportation services to Taichung Port area (Wuchi, Jhingshui, Datu, Longjing,) it is a science park in the Central Taiwan and a connecting station to the Taichung International Airport. It also serves the transit passengers from Taichung Port, and provides a good environment for westward moving people in the Greater Taichung Metropolis. It is expected that by the end of 2005, the station will be fully renovated and will provide quality services to the people in Haisian Village.

(Curator: Mr. Chen Tien-yang, follower of liang-nan-style sword casting)
In 1984, the Cingyun Sword-Casting Art Gallery was set up in Shalu Town. It is open to the public.

The head of this library, Mr. Chen Sadong, dedicates himself to promoting the movie making art and fighting funds from the Council for Cultural Affairs for the establishment of The Cinema Art Center, which then becomes one of the four largest cinema art centers in Taiwan. >> The pottery trade of Shalu Town plays an important role in the development of pottery development in Taiwan
The bicycle wheel was invented by the pottery master by the family of Wang, thereby deeply influencing the production of pottery works. >> Stone Carving
It is at the intersection of Jhongchi Road and Tunglian Road. The great sculptor, Mr. Chen Song, donated his house and offers free training on sculpture techniques. >> This town is an artistic town
Famous universities include: Providence University, Hungkuang University, National Shalu Vocational High School, etc. (These three universities are all located on Jhongchi Road, at a 10-minutes' driving distance from the station.)

◆ Shalu Sunpo Library
It is located on Chennan Road of Shalu Town, and at a 5-minutes’ driving distance from the station. Inside the library, the flowers and trees are luxuriant and well spaced. The environment is elegant. A wide range of artistic and cultural activities are often organized there. In addition, it is the best recreational site for the teenagers.

◆ Cingshan Park
It is located on Chennan Road of Shalu Town, and at a 7-minutes’ driving distance from the station. It is a typical park among the 10 theme parks of this community for teenagers to build up their body strength.

◆ Luliao Garment Business Circle
It is located on Jhongshan Road of Shalu Town, and at a 12-minutes’ driving distance from the station. It was once the largest garment manufacturing and wholesaling center in Taiwan. When it was prosperous, there were over 500 shops there, with goods exported overseas.

◆ Leisure Activity Network System
Depart from Shalu Station, travel along Jhongkang Road, and turn right at the Tunghai University. It takes about 18 minutes.

◆ West Coastal Footpath for Hiking
Along Jhongchi Road and the back entrance of Providence University, walk up from the foot of Dadu Shan. It takes 120 minutes.

◆ Taiwan Leisure Bike Lane
Depart from Shalu Station, travel along Jhongjheng Road, Shatien Road, Shingan Road, Yungling Road, and the ring-shaped lane of Jhongchi Road. The entire trip is 5.8 km in length.

◆ Hong Mao Well
It is located on Hongjhu Lane, Chulin Village of Shalu Town, and at an 8-minutes’ driving distance from the station. It is a historical well with sweet water, so that it is a major water source for the local people. After tap water facilities have been set up, it became less important.

◆ Paoan Temple
It is located on Jhongshan Road of Shalu Town, and at a 5-minutes’ driving distance from the station. It was founded during the 10th year in the reign of Chien Lung in the Ching Dynasty. It is a relic and a center of religious faith for the town people.

Shalu is located in the coastal areas of Taichung County and is a major business and industrial center of Taichung Port. It is a traffic hub with very convenient outgoing traffic. For example, a wide range of trains of the North-South Railway (sea route) are parked at Shalu Station. In addition, the Cross-Island Highway is backbone that interconnects the town. There are also the Jhongchi Road linking to Taichung City and the Chung Shan Highway.
The main highways of this town are Taiwan 1st Line (North-South Highway includes Shatien Road, Jhongjheng Road), Taiwan 10th Line (Jhongjhing Road to Taya,) Taiwan 10th Line (Jhongjhing Road to Jhingshui,) and Taiwan 12th Line (Jhongchi Road.) Taichung Second Highway also crosses this town. Two interchanges have also been set up in this town, so as to form a well-equipped outward radiating traffic network. Shalu Station is located in the center of Shalu Town. Toward the mountains, there lies its business center, in which people come to and fro, and traffic is busy.
