》Shanhua Township and the Founder of Taiwan-developing documentation
According to the record, Shen, Guang-wun was born at the end of Ming Dynasty in Jhejiang Province. One time while on the way to Cyuanjhou by boat, he encountered Typhoon and was floated to Taiwan. After coming to Taiwan, he asked for nothing but a house to stay. At that time, the Dutch occupied Taiwan and he lost contact with Mainland; therefore, no body knew where and how he was. Until Jeng, Cheng-gong came to Taiwan and understood that he was still alive, he received him with great honors and gave him a “Tianjhai” (farm house); Jeng died in 1662 and his son Jeng, Jing took over his position and removed all his father’s servants and policies. Shen wrote a “Taiwan Essay” to criticize him and got him almost killed. In order to avoid the danger to happen, he changed his clothes to be a monk, escaped into the northern wilderness and resided on Luohaimei (the present Neimen Township) Mountain.
After he became a monk, he still went to the nearby town called Mujialiouwan Aborigines Village (the present Anting Township Tainan County), taught the Pingpu Tribe people “Han characters”. On the other hand, he also medicated people. He was buried on Shanhua (the present Shanhua Township Tainan County.) We can see from here that the area around Neimen Township already had simple temple exist sine 1663; therefore, the belief in Guanyin Buddha of Luohaimen can be traced back then; it was because of the coming of Shen, Guang-wun, he established the foundation of Luohaimen culture.
