Brief Introduction
|
According to town records, in August in the 24th year in the reign of Chien Lung of Ching Dynasty, Shulin became flooded. Then in order to prevent floods, trees were planted, so that this region was named “Shulin.” This station was built in 1887, governor Liu Ming-chuan requested the Ching government for approval of the construction of Taiwan Railway. In 1893, it was completely built and open. On January1 1955, it was upgraded into a second-class “B” station, which was then upgraded into a second-class “A” station on January 1 1966. Then on July 1 1985, it was upgraded into a first-class station. On August 16 1988, its old waiting room was expanded. On July 26 1994, the old station was torn down, and was moved to the temporary station building. On March 14, 1997, Shulin Switchyard opened (replacing the abolished Banciao Passenger Train Station) and became the origin of the East Line, with a South-North area of approximately 1500 meters, at a width of 80 ~ 170 meters, and occupying an area of 14.3 hectares.

Jie An Palace Jie An Palace is located at the intersection between Section 1, Baoan Street and Shusin Road for the worship of Baoan God. In 1927, it was moved to its current location, which was repaired in 1978. Nowadays, it is a magnificent temple. Jie An Palace is simple and unsophisticated and solemn, and the temple is exquisitely carved. >>Drive till this temple in the city. Large pubic parking lots are available behind the temple. >>Stop at the Shulin Railway Station. Walk along Jhencian St. northward for about 5 minutes.

Ta Tung Shan Located at the southwest of Shulin, the slope is moving slowly… Cherry blossoms are covered all along the road. It is thus the best place for hiking. Climb up the mountain and high up there, look into the distance. There you can see Shulin and the Greater Taipei Area. On the mountains, there are the Fu-de Temple and the Wang Mu Niang Niang Temple, which are built magnificently, with an antique sense. Therefore, it is frequented by tourists.
>> Driving: Drive from Lane 45, Section 2, Baoan Street of this city to the Industrial Road and then up the slope.
>> Public Transportation: Take a train to Shulin Station. Then from the rear station, take the Taipei Bus (Taipei~Hui Lung) and stop at the Wu-Lin Elementary School station (at the side of Shulin Wooden Furniture Industrial Zone.) Then from Section 2, Baoan Street, walk up the mountain.

Tam Di Park Located at Shulin Precinct at the side of 238, Section 2, Baoan Street, it occupies an area of about 1 chia. Inside the park, flowers and wood are luxuriant and well spaced and blossom all the year round. Red and white pavilions alternate with one another to give a special flavor of Jiangnan. Therefore, it is a perfect recreational site for relaxation and appreciating birds and flowers. >> Enter the square of Shulin Household Registration Office from the Baoan Street.

Water Resource Landscape Sporting Garden The park for entertainment and recreation, occupies an area of almost 10,000 pings. In the park, there are basketball courts, tennis courts, sport facilities, and children’s playground, for the teenagers and seniors to have a walk and take a rest.
>> Walk from Shulin Railway Station, via Bo Ai Street and Shueiyuan Street. Then cross Chung Hwa Road toward Shueiyuan park. It all takes about 20 minutes.
