區塊標題項目符號圖示 Brief Introduction

Songshan was originally a settlement for Aboriginal Kaitaglan Pingpu Tribe. During the reign of Chien Lung in the Ching Dynasty, it was translated as Maolisakou in Chinese. Then during the 20th year of the reign of Chia Chin, it was simply called Sakou. In June 1887, Taiwan’s governor Liu Ming-chuan pleaded for the construction of Keelung-Hsinchu section of Taiwan Railway. In the beginning, Sakou was a simple ticketing office. Then in the ninth year in the reign of Ta Cheng, it was renamed Songshan Chuang, which was later renamed Songshan Stop. Then in October 1940, it was renovated as a wooden station.

After the Restoration of Taiwan, it was classified into a second-class station on January 1 1955. In July 1985, the old wooden station building was torn down and renovated into a second-story cross-island station. The section opposite to the Songshan Road is called the front station and the section toward Pa Te Road is called the rear station. On July 1 1987, it was upgraded into a first-class station, and replaced Taipei City for the departure station of the southward train of the north-south line.

Tsuyou Temple
At the intersection of Rau He Street and Pa Te Road, there is a famous temple of historical significance in Songshan District- Tsuyou Temple. It was built in 1753, so it has a history of over 200 years. That time, there was a monk called Lin Chou-yi from Fujian Province in China. Then he came to Taiwan. Once in Saikou, the people there were mostly from Fujian Province and worshipped the God of Mazu. Therefore, they advocated the establishment of a temple to worship Mazu. This temple was then called Tsuyou Temple, which became a place for the worship of Mazu and a collecting and distributing center of goods. In Tsuyou Temple, the ceremony of Heavenly Holy Mother on March 23 (the birthday of Mazu) was the greatest ceremony. As a result, along the three routes from the east, south, and north, people welcomed the parade of Mazu. Households prepared animal sacrifice or flowers to wait for the Heavenly Holy Mother. It was very crowded.

Till now, during ceremonies, Tsuyou Temple is crowded with people and is the largest temple fair in Songshan District.

Rau He Night Market
The Rau He Street located around Section 4, Pa Te Road and Fuyuan Street extends for a length of 600 m. and is one of the few large sightseeing night markets in Taipei City. The area around the Rau He Street and Songshan Train Station was originally called Saikou. Because the Keelung River is deep, ships could easily sail there, so the goods from Keelung and Yilan could be shipped to Taipei City. That time, there were a lot of businessmen and ships there, thereby making this district very prosperous. Therefore, in the beginning, it was called “Little Suzhou.” As the rivers were silted, sea transportation declined. After the expansion of Pa Te Road, Rau He Street became less important. As a result, its business activities sharply declined. To improve the livelihood of the business there, the government set up the sightseeing night market in 1987.

There are over 140 stalls in the Rau He Night Market. Together with the extended stalls on the two sides of the road, there are over 400 stalls in this night market. It often attracts a lot of gourmands there.

Wufenpu Garment Market
Since the mid 1960’s, over 1000 companies have been developed there, covering Songshan Road, Songlung Road, Chung Po N. Rd., and Yung Chi Road. It is a collecting and distributing center of garments in Taipei City. As this market features traditional styles, if licensed vendors or circulating vendors in different parts of Taipei City want to sell garments, the majority of people still regard Wufenpu as the major distributing center of garments. Taking 1986 as a dividing line, due to historical reasons, traditional small-scale garment wholesaling became popular in Wufenpu. With time changes, the proportion of middle wholesaling and retailing will become similar, and the outlets become more decorated. The wholesaling of garments also becomes diversified.
