Brief Introduction
|
This station is located in Yan Wan at the foot of Penan Shan, and adjoins the Pacific Ocean in the front, the Penan River on the left, and Taitung City, the second largest city in the Eastern Taiwan, and the connection of the Huatung Line and the South-Link Line, on the right. In addition, it is located at a distance of 156 km from Hualien in the north and at a distance of 160 km from Kaohsiung in the south. Since the East Line of Taiwan Railway was constructed in the Penan Station in 1980, this station has uncovered rich Penan culture. This station is located inside the cultural park.
This station was completed when the East Line of Taiwan Railway was widened in June 1982. It was called Penan Station, which replaced the passenger and cargo transportation service going on in the Bin Long Station in the olden days. After the South-Link Line had been completed and opened in the 1990’s, it was renamed Taitung New Station for round-island railway transportation, thereby paving a new way for the transportation in the Eastern and the Western Taiwan by providing a convenient, cheap transportation system. After the original Taitung Station had been removed in June 2001, this station was formally renamed Taitung Station on December 1 2001.
