Wanhua was originally called"Bangka," which was the earliest place developed in Taipei. During the Ching Dynasty, all those sailing to Taiwan along Fujian mostly entered the port through Tamshui. Up the Tamshui River, they were parked at No. 9 Watergate for loading and unloading goods. As there were a lot of businessmen over there, the industry and business prospered, and the population increased. Then this station was established.
On August 25 1900, it has been built and operated for 106 years. In the past, it was called "Bangka" Station, which was a simple and crude station located at the intersection of Ai Kou West Road and Chung Hwa Road and was relocated to this current location on July 1 1918. Then it was renovated into a wooden station featuring both eastern and western architectural styles.
In October 1920, it was renamed Wanhua Station in line with district nomenclature.
